Living Legacy Tree Memorial Program

In cooperation with the Tiffin Park and Recreation Department, the Tiffin Tree Commission has established a Living Legacy Program for civic participation. This program gives individuals and organizations the opportunity to plant a tree in memory of a loved one. The permanence of such a living memorial encourages a quiet setting for meditation and reflection.

The plantings are placed in a city park with the species conforming to the City of Tiffin Guide to suitable trees as established by the Tree Commission. The following are suggested guidelines for this program:

  1. Trees must be of a desirable type and variety for park planting.
  2. Trees must be relatively immune to disease and insects native to this geographic area.
  3. Trees must be well-grown nursery stock from a reputable licensed nursery.
  4. Trees must be/have a diameter of no less than 1.5 inches.
  5. All trees must be planted by a licensed nursery during or at a desirable planting season.
  6. Trees must be mulched with a three-foot diameter and watered at the time of planting as well as staked if necessary.
  7. The location of the planting must be approved by both a member of the Tiffin Tree Commission and the Director of Park and Recreation.
  8. The location of the planting must be compatible with the overall development plans for that park.
  9. A suitable plaque will be placed on the designated Living Legacy tree sign stating the name of the person or group for whom the Living Legacy is given.
